Privacy
Save Jersey City runs this site. This page says what we collect when you sign, why we collect it, and who sees it.
What you give us
- Your name, email and home address.
- Your phone number, if you give one.
- Which describe you: renter, homeowner, rental property owner in Jersey City, business owner in Jersey City. If you own rental property, how many units you own and whether you live in one.
- Whether you say you’re registered to vote, and whether you’re willing to speak at a City Council meeting.
- Your note, if you ask us to mail postcards.
What we collect automatically
- Your IP address, a one-way code made from it, and a random ID for your browser, kept in a cookie. We use them to spot repeat scans and fake signatures.
- Your browser type, how long the form took to fill in, and the result of the bot check on the form.
- The versions of the petition and of these pages that you signed under.
- If you scan the code on a mailer we sent, a poster or a flyer: the code’s number, the time, your IP address, the browser ID and your browser type. Each mailer code belongs to one mailer, and our mailing list ties it to the address we sent it to. A poster or flyer code shows only which poster or flyer was scanned. If you sign within 30 days, we link your signature to that code, using one cookie.
We use no advertising trackers. We use two tracking cookies: one holds the code you scanned for 30 days, and one holds your browser ID for 12 months. You can clear them in your browser’s settings.
How we use it
- To count you as a supporter of the petition.
- To deliver the petition to the Mayor and City Council.
- To mail postcards in your name, only if you ask. See Postcards below.
- To check your address against public voter registration records, to find your ward and confirm registration.
- To email you about this campaign. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
- To text or call you about this campaign, if you give a phone number. See Texts and calls in the Terms.
- To find fake and duplicate signatures.
Postcards
If you ask us to mail postcards, one goes to each of these officials: your ward’s council member, the three at-large council members and the Mayor. Each card prints your name, home address, ward, whether you’re a registered voter, whether you rent or own your home, and your note. The officials and their staff will read them. We never print whether you own rental property.

We will disclose information when the law requires it, such as under a subpoena.
How long we keep it
We keep your information until 12 months after the campaign ends, then delete it.
